MICHAEL VAN GERWEN will begin the defence of his Dutch Darts Masters title against Mensur Suljovic or Welsh newcomer Jonny Clayton when the PDC European Tour returns to action this weekend in Venray.
The world number one took glory in home soil when he won the European Tour event in the Netherlands last year, and begins his bid to retain that title and win a fourth successive European Tour event of 2015 on Saturday.
Van Gerwen will meet the winner of Friday's first round clash between top Austrian ace Suljovic and new face Clayton, with the opening day's play seeing the 32 qualifiers face each other before the 16 seeded stars enter at the second round stage.
Number two seed Michael Smith, a European Tour winner in Germany last year, has been drawn against Northern Ireland's Daryl Gurney or Greece's John Michael, while James Wade is up against either Prakash Jiwa or John Henderson - April's German Darts Masters runner-up.
Number four seed Peter Wright will play either Australian ace Kyle Anderson or Belgian debutant Kenny Neyens, with number five seed Brendan Dolan up against either home hope Christian Kist or emerging Spanish star Cristo Reyes.
Friday's first round will also include former European Championship finalist Wayne Jones taking on youngster Josh Payne in the afternoon session and Brett Claydon against William O'Connor, while Joe Cullen faces Dutch opposition.
Dean Winstanley kicks off the evening session against Scotland's Gary Stone, while Nathan Aspinall takes on Jamie Robinson and Darren Webster faces former World Youth Championship finalist Ricky Evans.
Former European Tour winner Wes Newton takes on Dutch qualifier Jerry Hendriks, while a highlight of the night will see European Tour debutant Alan Norris take on another home hope, Jelle Klaasen.
Saturday's second round sees play split across two sessions, with the third round on Sunday afternoon before the tournament concludes on Sunday evening with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
