Van Gerwen has "nothing to prove" in BoyleSports World Grand Prix

Michael van Gerwen (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

FIVE-TIME WINNER 11/2 SECOND FAVOURITE IN LEICESTER

Michael van Gerwen says he has nothing to prove ahead of his bid to win the BoyleSports World Grand Prix for a sixth time.

The three-time World Darts Champion was talking to Leon Blanche of BoyleSports ahead of his first round match against compatriot Danny Noppert and expressed confidence that he can bounce back on the big stage after his first victory of the year at the recent Nordic Masters.

"I had to wait nine months for a tournament victory, but I got to a few finals and was probably a bit unlucky," Van Gerwen told BoyleSports.

"I was struggling with my form a little bit, but I was glad to win in Copenhagen; it's nice to win a tournament again.

"They all know what I'm capable of, I don't have to prove anything.

"I just need to do the right things for myself and keep trying to get better, that's the most important thing."

Van Gerwen is set to start as 11/2 second favourite to win the event behind Gerwyn Price, but is a hot 1/5 shot to beat Noppert when he begins his campaign on Monday night.
