De Sousa hoping to show doubles improvement at BoyleSports World Grand Prix

Jose de Sousa

Jose de Sousa is confident the unique format at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix will suit him as he chases a second major televised title in Leicester.

Last year’s BoyleSports Grand Slam of Darts Champion will round off the first round action when he goes head-to-head with Glen Durrant at the Morningside Arena in the final match on Monday night.

“That double is the most difficult thing in the world I think!”
De Sousa told BoyleSports this week.

“In the past for me, sometimes it’s been difficult to finish, so it would be difficult to start here, but thankfully I am much better at my doubles now, so everything is OK this year.”

The Premier League runner-up also insisted he has been sticking to his normal practice regime ahead of the event, which requires players to hit a double to start scoring in a leg.

De Sousa added: “I just work on my doubles like any other normal game. Obviously I’ll be happy to get off with either the first or second dart and after that it’ll be easy to play my game.”

De Sousa is set to start the tournament as a 12/1 shot to go all the way, with only Gerwyn Price (4/1), Michael van Gerwen (11/2) and Peter Wright ahead of him in the outright betting.
