DEVON PETERSEN, Andy Smith, Kevin McDine and Joe Murnan enjoyed a double celebration on Sunday as they qualified for the first two European Tour events of 2015 on a day which also saw two nine-darters hit in Wigan.
Petersen saw off Mark Dudbridge and Paul Amos to book his place at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim and the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, while Smith beat Mark Cox and Lee Evans, McDine defeated Richie Howson and Jamie Bain, and Murnan beat Mark and Darren Webster.
In a spectacular afternoon of action, Alan Norris landed his second nine-darter of the week in Wigan against the same opponent, Jason Lovett, while Andrew Gilding also hit a perfect leg against Robbie Green as he qualified for Gibraltar in the second event of the day.
Petersen, fresh from winning back his PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School, impressed at the Robin Park Tennis Centre again on Sunday as he won through two difficult boards in Wigan.
The South African beat Lee Moffatt 6-2 in his first game of the afternoon, before then winning in deciding legs against Wes Newton and Mark Dudbridge to secure his place in Hildesheim.
He then sealed his spot in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy in impressive fashion after easing past Robert Parker (6-1), John Henderson (6-2) and Paul Amos (6-0), dropping just three legs in the process.
McDine was also dealt a tricky hand in Wigan, beating a number of big names to seal his double success at the Robin Park Tennis Centre.
A 6-2 win against Wayne Atwood came first for McDine, who then beat World Youth Champion Keegan Brown 6-3 and Richie Howson 6-5 to qualify for the first European Tour event in Hildesheim.
And McDine would be celebrating again later in the day as he beat Tony Bradley 6-3 before comprehensively defeating Dave Chisnall 6-1, and then seeing off Jamie Bain 6-5 to book his place in Gibraltar.
Smith’s double-success would come in slightly simpler fashion as he was handed first round byes in both of the afternoon’s events.
The Pieman then edged past Gary Stone (6-4) and Mark Cox (6-5) to qualify for European Tour 1, before then securing back-to-back 6-2 wins against Dan Russell and Lee Evans to also secure his spot in the second European Tour event of the year.
Bolton's Murnan, who missed out on a Tour Card at Qualifying School by just one point, made amends on Sunday as he defeated Chris Skeates (6-2), Scotland's Jason Hogg (6-5) and Mark Webster (6-1) to qualify for Hildesheim, before then beating Mark Jones (6-3), Brandon Monk (6-1) and Darren Webster (6-3) to seal his second triumph of the day.
There would also be a double success in Wigan for James Wilson and Andy Boulton, who followed up their wins at Q School by qualifying for European Tour 1, while Andy Jenkins, Nathan Derry and Steve West qualified for European Tour 2 after also sealing PDC Tour Cards earlier in the week.
