Gulliver & Ashton pick up PDC Women's Series titles

Trina Gulliver (PDC)

Trina Gulliver picked up the opening PDC Women's Series title on Saturday whilst Lisa Ashton claimed her fourth title in just six events so far this year.

Gulliver got off to a brilliant start in the year's second of five weekends, picking up her first Women's Series title.

Event Five saw Gulliver start her campaign with a 4-0 whitewash win over Sharon Godbeer, before other comfortable victories over Wendy Reinstadtler (4-2), Jane Monaghan (4-1), Lerena Rietbergen (4-2) and Rhian O'Sullivan (4-1) saw her book her place in the semi-final stage of the £5,000 tournament.

There, she met England's Jane Densley, who she overcame 5-2 before comfortably wrapping up the final a 5-1 winner over Laura Turner to complete a successful start to a super Saturday on the Women's Series.

The ten-time Lakeside Champion said: "I'm really pleased to win.

"It's been a case of see how I go, to win it is obviously a bonus but I am really enjoying these events."

In reaching the Event Five final, Turner put in a steady display to dispatch Fallon Sherrock 5-1 in the semi-finals before falling short by the same scoreline in the decider.

Event Six saw Lisa Ashton pick up her fourth title this year, bouncing back from a defeat to Mikuru Suzuki in the last 64 of Event Five.

Ashton got off to a fine start in Event Six, winning eight straight legs to move into the last 32 before coming through a tight encounter 4-3 against Japan's Yukie Sakaguchi.

Another 4-0 victory over Lorraine Winstanley saw the former PDC Tour Card Holder move into the quarter-finals where she exacted revenge over Suzuki with a 4-3 win to book her semi-final spot.

A comfortable 5-1 win over Robyn Byrne saw Ashton set up a final with the Event Five finalist, Turner, who she overcame 5-2 to take the title.

Following her most successful day yet on the PDC Women's Series, Turner will be looking to go one step further when the weekend's action resumes on Sunday with Events 7-8 from Wigan.

Coverage will be broadcast on PDCTV from one board throughout each event from 1000 BST.

The top two players from the final PDC Women's Series Order of Merit will qualify to compete in the 2022/23 Cazoo World Darts Championship and 2022 Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts.
