2025 BetMGM Premier League - Night Seven preview

Gerwyn Price (PDC)

The 2025 BetMGM Premier League season continues in Cardiff on Thursday, as Gerwyn Price makes his return to home soil.

Price clinched his second nightly win of the campaign in Nottingham last Thursday, defeating Stephen Bunting, Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler to add to his Night Three success in Dublin.

The Welshman will now take centre stage on Night Seven at the Utilita Arena, as he takes on world number four Rob Cross in the evening’s fourth quarter-final tussle.

Price defeated Cross in Cardiff 12 months ago to advance to the nightly final, and he’s eyeing a repeat performance in the Welsh capital as he bids to deliver in front of a partisan home crowd.

“I’m not looking any further than the game against Rob,” declared Price, who finished top of the league phase back in 2023.

“I think Rob is probably playing some of the best stuff he’s ever played, so I know I have to be on my game.

“To win the night in Cardiff and give a little bit back to the crowd that have always supported me would be amazing, but I’m fully focused on my opening game.

“I want to keep this run going. The best part of my game at the moment is that I’m enjoying it, my mentality is right and I’m feeling more confident than I have for a while.”

Price defeated Littler 6-3 to triumph in Nottingham on Night Six, as he recorded his sixth consecutive victory over the teenage sensation, in a record dating back to April 2024.

The pair could renew their rivalry in the Night Seven semi-finals, with reigning champion Littler up against 2020 runner-up Nathan Aspinall in his Cardiff opener.

Littler has featured in four of the six nightly finals so far this season, and his comeback victory over Luke Humphries in the Night Six quarter-finals saw him leapfrog the world number one at the top of the table.

Humphries has suffered back-to-back quarter-final defeats since his Night Four exploits in Exeter, and the 30-year-old is targeting a return to winning ways ahead of his last eight clash with Van Gerwen.

The Dutch superstar has won five of his six quarter-finals in this year’s roadshow – more than any other player – although he’s succumbed in the semi-finals on all five occasions.

The closest he came to featuring in a nightly final was on the tournament’s opening night in Belfast, when he spurned a match dart at the bull to topple Humphries in a compelling encounter.

Humphries has remarkably won nine of his last ten meetings against Van Gerwen in all competitions, but he’s refusing to underestimate the threat posed by the seven-time Premier League champion.

“Michael has always been a player for the big occasions,” insisted Humphries, who leads the Dutchman by five points heading into Night Seven.

“These are the types of games that we both relish, because we know that we have to be at our best to win.

“You have to put Michael under pressure because if you don’t, he is an incredible frontrunner and he can take the game away from you.

“I do think there is a better level in me, but I feel my game is in a good place, so going into tomorrow I will be full of confidence believing I can win.”

Elsewhere in Cardiff, Chris Dobey and Bunting will go head-to-head for the first time in this year’s Premier League, with both players desperate for points in a bid to ignite their respective campaigns.

Bunting is without a win on his return to the Premier League fold, having suffered six straight quarter-final defeats despite boasting a tournament average of almost 99.

Dobey, meanwhile, has failed to register a victory since reaching the Night One showpiece in Belfast, although he did run out a 10-6 winner against Bunting when the pair met at the UK Open last month.

The 2025 Premier League sees eight of the sport’s biggest names contesting 16 mini-events during the season, with each league night comprising quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final over the best of 11 legs.

Ranking points will be awarded per night - with five to the winner, three to the runner-up and two to the semi-finalists - to form the league table from which the top four players will progress to the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on Thursday May 29.

The 2025 BetMGM Premier League will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK & Ireland, through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and on PDCTV for Rest of the World Subscribers (outside of the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
