ADRIAN LEWIS 5-4 TERRY JENKINS
ADRIAN LEWIS gained a consolation victory in the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with a deciding leg defeat of Terry Jenkins.
Lewis was unable to qualify for the last 16 after losing his opening two matches, but finished in style with six 180s in a superb performance.
Jenkins, who had already booked his second round spot, played his part in an entertaining contest, leading 4-2 and also taking out a 160 finish during the match.
Jenkins hit a 180 in winning the opening leg before Lewis hit a maximum in a 12-darter to level, only for the Ledbury man to power home a 160 checkout for a 2-1 cushion.
Jenkins also missed the bull to extend his lead, with Lewis following an earlier 180 with a two-dart 82 finish to level once more.
He gave himself the chance to lead in leg five following a third maximum of the game, but missed three darts for the leg as Jenkins stepped in on double five and then hit a 180 in breaking throw for a 4-2 lead.
Jenkins, though, missed three match darts in the next leg as Lewis scrambled home double five to stay in the contest.
He added a 180 and double top to ensure a decider, which he opened with a maximum - his sixth of the game - and ended on double eight.
"I wanted to go up there and get a win," said Lewis. "I can finish third and the extra £2,500 was important, but it's disappointing I've not qualified.
"I wanted to finish well and show people what I can do because I've not played as well as I can in my first two games.
"I dug in deep at 4-2 down but hopefully this has been a blip and I can be back on form for the World Championship next month."

GARY ANDERSON 5-2 CO STOMPE
GARY ANDERSON ensured unbeaten passage to the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-2 win over Co Stompe.
The Scot, a semi-finalist for the last two years in Wolverhampton, produced another impressive display to end Group F with three successive 5-2 wins.
Anderson hit the first of four 180s in the game in taking the opening leg, and a second double eight finish saw him move 2-0 up.
He hit another maximum to leave 24 in taking a 3-0 cushion before Stompe landed double 12 to get off the mark.
A 13-darter, featuring another 180, put him 4-2 up before Stompe took out double eight to stay in the contest.
However, the Dutchman missed one dart at double top in the next, and Anderson returned to the oche to seal the win on double two.
"I expected more from Co but I pinched the first leg and kicked on from there," said Anderson.
"It's gone OK for me so far but I'd like to be averaging over 100. I had a 99 average tonight so there's more to come."

SCOTT WAITES 5-0 WAYNE MARDLE
SCOTT WAITES whitewashed Wayne Mardle to win a place in the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts.
Waites secured a second victory in Group E to ensure a last 16 berth, and impressed with a 100 average.
The Yorkshireman opened the match with a 13-darter against the throw, and took out 98 to double his lead before finishing double eight to move 3-0 up.
A 180 pushed him ahead in leg four, and he had enough breathing space to miss six darts at a double before posting double three for a four-leg cushion.
Mardle hit a 180 of his own in the next, to leave 94, but was denied a dart at a double as Waites took out a superb 140 to seal victory.
"Wayne started well in the first leg but I turned it around and it's a fanastic result for me," said Waites.
Mardle lost all three group matches, and admitted: "I'm disappointed with this week but I've played some great players who have performed superbly against me.
"Scott was class and I didn't put him under enough pressure."

ANDY HAMILTON 5-3 JAMES WADE
ANDY HAMILTON set up a nine-dart shoot-out with James Wade for a place in the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with a superb 5-3 win over the left-hander.
Hamilton had to win 5-3 or better to stay alive in the tournament, and a flawless display of finishing secured just that result.
Wade played his part in a classic, averaging 102 but being left with no chance to reply as Hamilton piled home four ton-plus finishes.
Wade kicked off the game with a 180 and also hit a maximum in the second, only for Hamilton to take out 130 and 132 for a 2-0 lead.
Double top got Wade off the mark in the third, and he hit a 180 and was waiting on 24 to level in the fourth when Hamilton finished 102.
A two-dart 64 finish put Hamilton 4-1 up, before Wade landed a pair of double ten finishes to pull back to 4-3 - earning the three legs he needed to avoid elimination in the game.
But Hamilton produced a 12-dart finish, including a 180 and a 120 checkout, to wrap up the win and ensure a nine-dart shoot-out at the close of play.
"James is a great player and I had to pick up my game, and my finishing was excellent," said Hamilton.
"I had nothing to lose and I relaxed and enjoyed it, because I put too much pressure on myself in the earlier two games."

SIMON WHITLOCK 5-4 TED HANKEY
TED HANKEY was dumped from the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts by a thrilling Simon Whitlock comeback in Wolverhampton, as the Aussie fought back from 4-2 down to win 5-4.
BDO World Champion Hankey needed to win 5-2 or better to keep alive his hopes in the tournament, and looked on course to do that when he led 3-0 and 4-1.
But he missed one dart for victory as Whitlock battled back, and the Australian took out 146 in the deciding leg to ensure his second round place.
"When I was 3-0 up I thought I had him, but Simon played great darts to come back," said Hankey.
"I had that one chance to win it when I missed double top but he was superb and that 146 finish was sensational."
Hankey made a brilliant start, defying a 180 from Whitlock in the opening leg to take out 141.
He then took out 80 on double ten and double nine to take a 3-0 lead, after Whitlock twice missed darts at double top.
Whitlock won the fourth in 14 darts to get off the mark and hit a 180 in the next, only for Hankey to post double 16 to move a leg away from the win.
The pair traded 180s in leg six, but double ten from Whitlock gave him a second leg - ensuring at least a nine-dart shoot-out in a worst-case scenario should he lose 5-2.
That became a realistic prospect in the next leg when Hankey set up a 105 finish, but he missed double top for the win and Whitlock took out 112 to pull back to 4-3.
Another 14-darter from the Australian saw him level to secure a deciding leg for the second successive game, having taken out 142 to see off Scott Waites on Monday.
He went one better this time around by taking out 146 on double 13 to complete a brilliant fightback and celebrate progression to round two.
"Ted played fantastic and it was a great game," said Whitlock, who averaged almost 103.
"I thought I was gone when I was 3-0 down but I showed some Aussie fighting spirit, never gave up and it happened for me."

STEVE BEATON won a dramatic final-leg shoot-out with Kevin McDine to sneak into the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts.
The pair went into their final group game knowing the winner would progress to the last 16, with McDine taking a 3-0 lead to put himself on course for the win.
But Beaton overcame his early nerves to hit back and force a deciding leg, before snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
McDine took double top to break throw in the game's opening leg, and landed double four and another tops finish to take the first three legs without reply.
He also had three darts to win the fourth, but missed doubles allowed Beaton in on double 12.
Beaton also won the fifth but then missed double 18 for a 150 finish which would have levelled matters, as McDine finished 80 on double ten to go 4-2 up.
A pair of double 16 finishes from Beaton saw him win the next two legs and force a decider, with the final leg seeing both players battling the pressure.
Beaton wired double top before McDine missed the bullseye on 85, and the former World Champion returned to the oche to post double ten and win a second round tie with Simon Whitlock.
"I didn't want it to go to the last leg but Kevin took his chances early on and put me under pressure," said Beaton.
"The fourth leg was crucial and I knew I had to win it, and that gave me chance. I was happy to get away with the win in the end."

DARIN YOUNG 5-4 DENIS OVENS
DARIN YOUNG won his decisive clash with Denis Ovens 5-3 to move into the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts.
The American left-hander trailed 3-1 to Ovens before taking four successive legs in setting up a last 16 clash with Robert Thornton.
Young kicked off the game with a 180 and landed double ten for the opening leg, only for Ovens to level in 14 darts, take out 117 to break throw and 84 for a 3-1 lead at the break.
Young posted double ten to win the fifth and then back-to-back 14-dart finishes to move 4-3 up.
He then landed double top to take the win, securing second place in Group G, while Ovens takes third ahead of Adrian Lewis by virtue of winning their group match.

Nine-Dart Shoot-Out
James Wade won the nine-dart shoot-out with Andy Hamilton to earn a spot in the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts, as the second placed qualifier from Group H.
Hamilton's 5-3 win over Wade earlier on Tuesday meant he finished level on four points and on +2 leg difference, ensuring the shoot-out.
Wade opened with a score of 96, which was bettered by Hamilton's 100 on his first visit to the oche. The duo then traded scores of 85 and 77 respectively to leave Wade four points in front going into the final three darts.
The left-hander then produced a brilliant 180 to leave Hamilton unable to match his total of 361, with the Stoke ace - who won last year's Nine-Dart Shoot-Out with Alan Tabern - producing 100 in vain with his final three darts to end on 277.
"I played well in the first two games and then lost to Andy so it was strange," said Wade. "I'm happy to get through and I'll take that.
"I really want to win this and I'm looking forward to playing Terry Jenkins on Friday, we always have good games."

ROBERT THORNTON booked a place in the second round of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-2 win over Gary Mawson.
The Scot had to take victory if he was to progress to the last 16, and produced the goods in a strong performance.
He kicked off the match with back-to-back 180s, and though a potential nine-darter went begging he won the opening leg in 11 darts.
A pair of double ten finishes put him 3-0 up, and Thornton then punished missed doubles from Mawson to take out double 18 for the fourth leg.
Mawson landed a 177 in the fifth, and punished three missed mnatch darts from Thornton to take the leg and also a second with double two in the next.
But Thornton wrapped up victory with a neat 96 finish to ensure his last 16 place.
"I started well but missed a few doubles after going 4-0 up, and it's always the hardest part getting that final leg," said Thornton. "I'm into the last 16 and that's what mattered."

The left-hander then produced a brilliant 180 to leave Hamilton unable to match his total of 361, with the Stoke ace - who won last year's Nine-Dart Shoot-Out with Alan Tabern - producing 100 in vain with his final three darts to end on 277.
"I played well in the first two games and then lost to Andy so it was strange," said Wade. "I'm happy to get through and I'll take that.
"I really want to win this and I'm looking forward to playing Terry Jenkins on Friday, we always have good games."
