JAMES WADE picked up his second title of 2009 with a 6-4 victory over Colin Lloyd in Saturday's Players Championship in Derby.
Wade followed up his victory in a Blue Square UK Open Regional Final last month with a strong display at the Moorways Centre in Derby to take the £6,000 title.
The world number two averaged 108 and hit eight maximums in a Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts win over Terry Jenkins and also drew with Phil Taylor on Thursday, and continued that form to sweep to victory in Derby.
Having defeated Lee Williams, Andy Fordham, Stuart Dutton and Mark Lawrence to reach the quarter-finals, he was pushed all the way by Holland's Co Stompe.
Wade then overcame Derby-based Colin Osborne 6-4, and overcame Lloyd by the same scoreline in a tight final.
Lloyd led 2-0 in the decider before Wade levelled, with the Essex star also hitting a 122 finish in establishing a 4-3 lead.
But Wade fired in an 11-dart leg to square the game once more, and hit a 180 in moving 5-4 up before landing double ten for victory after the pair traded further maximums in leg ten.
Lloyd's run saw him reach a third PDC Pro Tour final of the year, and included narrow wins over Ben Burton and Nigel Birch in the early rounds and a comeback victory against world number three Raymond van Barneveld at the quarter-final stage.
Ronnie Baxter's consistent recent form continued with another run to the semis, where he went down 6-4 to Lloyd.
Gary Anderson landed his first nine-dart finish since joining the PDC earlier this year in a victory over Darren Latham, only to lose to former Lakeside Champion Mark Webster.
Webster went on to reach the last eight, while Andy Fordham recorded his first victory on the PDC circuit, defeating Jon Archer 6-4 before losing to Wade.
While Dennis Priestley suffered a loss to van Barneveld in the last 16, the two-time World Champion had cause for celebration after receiving confirmation that he currently requires no further treatment for prostate cancer for at least six months.
The 58-year-old has been battling the disease for over a year, but received news that the PSA level in his blood has dropped to 0.05 since undergoing radiotherapy last September.
