ALAN TABERN has set his sights on winning a place in the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with overall victory in Championship League Darts.
Tabern's success in Group Two of the Championship League Darts - screened solely on the internet - last Wednesday means he progresses to October's Winner's Group.
Along with £10,000 to the overall champion in addition to the prize money won per leg in the event, the winner of the event will be offered a place in November's Grand Slam of Darts.
Tabern is one of a number of players involved in Championship League Darts who have yet to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts, and admits that he will have added motivation in the Winner's Group.
"I'd love to be in the Grand Slam of Darts and this is obviously a tournament that qualifies for that," said Tabern.
"So being in the Winners Group has a bit more importance for me now and I've got everything to play for."
Tabern competed in the first two days of the new tournament, finishing third in Group one before losing to Colin Lloyd in the semi-finals.
He returned for Group Two to edge out James Wade and Wayne Mardle for fourth place, before defeating Andy Hamilton and Kevin Painter in final-leg shoot-outs in the play-offs.
"Sometimes in darts you don't get what you deserve," he said.
"I thought I played really well in Group One and lost in the semi-finals, and perhaps I wasn't as good in Group Two and won it.
"I'm delighted though, and really pleased to have won such a tough group."
