RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD and Jason Clark landed nine-darters in the PartyPoker.net German Darts Championship on Saturday.
The duo both landed the perfect leg at the Gerry Weber Centre in Halle, with van Barneveld going on to be one of the eight quarter-finalists who will return to compete for the €25,000 winner's cheque on Sunday.
Clark was the first to achieve the feat, hitting his nine-darter early in his opening game, a win over Marc Lentz, with back-to-back 180s followed by treble 20, treble 15 and double 18.
He went on to reach the last 16, where a superb show of finishing from Phil Taylor saw him sweep past "The Cockney Jock" in straight sets.
Van Barneveld also opened his challenge in style, recovering from early double trouble against Detlef Bietz to land the nine-darter - finishing with treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 - in a 3-0 victory.
Van Barneveld also saw off Ingo Vogt, Steve Smith and Colin Osborne to progress to Sunday's quarter-finals without dropping a set.
He will meet Roland Scholten in the last eight, following the Dutchman's wins over former World Champions Bob Anderson and John Part on Saturday.
Wayne Mardle, who won the PartyPoker.net German Darts Trophy event a month ago, will take on Taylor in another high-profile last eight contest.
Kevin McDine, a semi-finalist in the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts last week, continued his good form by reaching the quarter-finals.
For a second successive week he defeating Jelle Klaasen with ease, averaging over 100 in a 3-1 victory, and he also overcame Kevin Painter and former German number one Tomas Seyler on the day.
McDine meets Mark Walsh in the quarters, with Walsh having booked his last eight spot with a 3-0 defeat of young Dutchman Leroy Kwadijk - a Ladbrokes.com PDC World Darts Championship qualifier - and a 3-1 victory over Mervyn King.
Colin Lloyd and Denis Ovens meet in the final last eight contest, after their respective wins against Adrian Lewis and James Wade in the last 16.
German number one Mensur Suljovic reached the last 16, including Michael van Gerwen, Dennis Priestley, Yves Cottenge and Jan van der Rassel among his victims before four superb legs from Wayne Mardle saw him storm to a 3-1 victory.
Friday night saw a qualifying tournament for four places in the main event, with Karsten Kornath, Ingo Vogt, Thomas Obstfelder and Mario Masurka winning a spot in the German Darts Championship.
