Shaun Greatbatch 3-0 Darryl Fitton
Shaun Greatbatch overcame Darryl Fitton in straight sets to book his second round place at the Bullit World Darts Trophy with a fine display of finishing.
Greatbatch was forced to come through two rounds of qualifiers in the preliminary round on Friday to book his place in the main tournament, but looked in strong form to see off Fitton.
Fitton himself competed well and could have produced a different result had his darts at doubles to win the first and third sets landed inside the wire.
Fitton held his throw in the first set with legs of 14 and 12 darts, and three ton-plus scores put him ahead in the decider against the darts, only to miss three darts at double top and allow Greatbatch in to move 1-0 up.
The first three legs in set two went against the darts to leave Greatbatch 2-1 ahead, and he was the stronger in leg four to take out 96 for a 14-darter and two-set lead.
Fitton responded with another 14-darter of his own in the opener to set three, only for Greatbatch to take the next two and edge towards victory.
A 107 checkout saw Fitton level the set, and a fourth 180 of the game left him 121 in the decider - but he paid for a miss at double 14 as Greatbatch landed double 12 for the win.
Terry Jenkins 3-2 Co Stompe
Terry Jenkins had to come from behind to defeat Co Stompe 3-2 and book his place in the last 16 of the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
The world number four struck finishes of 96, 156 and 120 to win a high-quality first set in a decider, only for Stompe to delight the Dutch crowd by winning the next two to edge himself ahead.
He took set two 3-1 and hit 180s in three successive legs as well as wrapping up the set with a 13-darter against the throw.
Jenkins replied with a 13-darter of his own to kick off set three, and led 2-1 before Stompe landed another maximum and double top to level the set and then punished two misses at double 16 from the Englishman to hit double three and move 2-1 up in the game.
Back-to-back 14-darters saw Jenkins break a 1-1 deadlock in set four and send the match into a decider.
Stompe missed three darts for the first leg before Jenkins took out double top, only for the Dutchman to land a neat two-dart 62 and level matters,
Jenkins held his throw to win leg three comfortably, and three ton-plus scores put him in a position to wrap up the victory on double top, finishing with a 48% checkout figure.
Roland Scholten 3-1 Remco van Eijden
Roland Scholten won the all-Dutch clash with Remco van Eijden 3-1 to progress at the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
The former UK Open champion produced some flashes of his brilliant best during the game, although he allowed van Eijden to come back into the game with a poor third set before regaining his range to seal the win.
In his first televised appearance since his 16-1 loss to Phil Taylor at the Stan James World Matchplay in July, Scholten made an excellent start to this contest.
He landed a maximum on his way to winning the opening leg, and produced back-to-back 180s to open leg two before finishing with a ten-darter on double ten.
Van Eijden struck back to level the set, but a 100 finish from Scholten gave him the set and early advantage.
Van Eijden, the Hungarian Open champion, landed a 92 finish on double 18 to level at 1-1 in set two, before a 96 finish for Scholten edged him in front and double top to break the throw gave him the second set.
Scholten dipped in set three as van Eijden launched a comeback, with a 12-darter against the throw in leg two including two 180s and two double top finishes giving him the set without reply.
A 12-darter from Scholten, including a 180 and a 121 finish on double 16, put him in front in set four, although van Eijden struck back with a maximum of his own in taking the next leg.
Double 16 put Scholten within a leg of the match, and a missed double 12 from van Eijden gave him a chance to wrap up the win, which he did on double top.
Phil Taylor 3-1 Vincent van der Voort
Phil Taylor made a successful start to the defence of his Bullit World Darts Trophy crown with a 3-1 win over Vincent van der Voort in Utrecht.
Taylor included an 11-darter in the opening leg of the match, and averaged over 98 to set up a second round date with Roland Scholten on Wednesday.
Van der Voort played his part in an entertaining contest, taking the second set and hitting 50 percent of his doubles, but could not handle the power scoring of Taylor, who landed five maximums.
Taylor kicked off the game with back-to-back 180s, although his seventh dart at an attempted nine-darter was astray before he wrapped up the leg on double four for an 11-darter.
He won leg two in 14 darts and took out a two-dart 82 finish to snatch the first set.
Finishes of 98 and 96 from Taylor in set two were not enough as van der Voort upped his game, landing two 180s and a 13-darter before taking the set on double top in the decider.
However, the Dutchman wasted darts to take the opening leg of set three and, though he levelled at 1-1, Taylor pulled clear to take the set 3-1 with a 13-darter against the throw.
Taylor won the first two legs of set four with van der Voort sat on a double, and then took out a fine 140 checkout to progress.
