SIMON WHITLOCK made the perfect start to the Park Trent Australian Grand Prix by wining both tournaments in Wagga Wagga at the weekend.
Whitlock whitewashed Shane Haddy 6-0 on Saturday to take the first title of the new AGP season.
He repeated the feat on Sunday with a 6-1 defeat of 2005 AGP Champion Brian Roach in the final, also overcoming fellow Queenslander Glen Powers in the semi-finals.
Mitchell Clegg, the 16-year-old 2006 Oceanic Masters champion who competed in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship in December, reached the last 16 of Saturday's event, while brother David was a quarter-final loser on both days.
Barry Jouannet, twice the Australian representative in the World Championship, reached Sunday's last eight after being a last 16 loser on Saturday.
Jouannet had presented, on behalf of Dart Players Australia, a cheque for $7,000 to Wollongong Mayor Alex Darling last week.
The money will go to the Lord Mayor's charity and was raised at last year's William Cross Pro-Am by players and representatives of Dart Players Australia, Park Trent Properties, Dapto Leagues Club and Unicorn.
The DPA have also announced that the 2007 Unicorn Oceanic Masters will cross the Tasman for the first time, to be played in Christchurch, New Zealand from 26-28 October.
The event will begin with a Test Match between New Zealand and Australia on 26 October, with the Oceanic Masters being played on Saturday and Sunday.
