Wade Wins Manchester Title

JAMES WADE defeated Terry Jenkins 2-0 to win the Blue Square UK Open North-West Regional Final in Manchester.

The 23-year-old produced a sensational day of darts at Bigwigs, knocking out Phil Taylor 5-2 in the quarter-finals with a 110.48 average and also seeing off Colin Osborne in the semis.

He then guaranteed the £5,000 winner's cheque by dropping just one leg in the final against Jenkins.

Wade took the opening leg against the darts after beginning the match with a maximum, held his throw in leg two and then took out 91 on the bull to win the set.

He also led in set two before a two-dart 76 finish got Jenkins off the mark.

A 12-darter put Wade within one leg of the match, and he recovered from missing the bullseye for a 121 finish to land double eight and seal the win.

Jenkins defeated John MaGowan and Steve Hine earlier on Sunday, while Osborne overcame Wayne Mardle 5-2 in their quarter-final.

QUARTER-FINALS
STEVE HINE 5-1 DENIS OVENS

STEVE HINE soared into the semi-finals of the Blue Square UK Open North-West Regional Final with a convincing win over Denis Ovens.

Hine won the North-East Regional Final two years ago, and remained on course for another title after seeing off Ovens.

He took an early 3-0 lead, including a 120 finish in the second leg, before Ovens got off the mark with double ten in leg four.

A two-dart 60 finish put Hine 4-1 up, and he wrapped up the win despite a maximum from Ovens in the sixth leg, taking out 81 for the match.

TERRY JENKINS 5-3 JOHN MAGOWAN

TERRY JENKINS edged out John MaGowan 5-3 to set up a semi-final against Steve Hine.

The World Grand Prix finalist showed glimpses of his best form in seeing off the Northern Irelander, who was a semi-finalist at last year's UK Open finals.

Jenkins took the opening two legs before MaGowan checked out 97 to win the third.

A brilliant 151 finish gave Jenkins leg four but his missed double seven allowed MaGowan in to take the fifth.

The pair shared the next two legs before Jenkins landed double top for the win.

COLIN OSBORNE 5-2 WAYNE MARDLE

COLIN OSBORNE reeled off four straight legs to end Wayne Mardle's hopes of a second successive final appearance.

Mardle lost to Phil Taylor in the final of the Southern Regional Final in London a fortnight ago, but a fine effort from Osborne put the Derby thrower into the semis.

Osborne landed maximums in both of the first two legs but found himself 2-1 down before producing a pressure double nine in the fourth.

He then took out a 74 finish to break Mardle's throw, double 18 to go 4-2 up and then hit a third maximum of the game on his way to victory in leg seven.

JAMES WADE 5-2 PHIL TAYLOR

JAMES WADE produced a sensational display to finally gain victory over Phil Taylor with a 5-2 win.

The 23-year-old from Aldershot lost to Taylor in the Stan James World Matchplay final last year and in a Players Championship final in Wales, but grabbed his revenge in style.

He averaged 110.48 against Taylor, winning the first three legs in 13, 14 and 12 darts.

Taylor took the fourth on double eight after Wade missed the bullseye for a 127 finish, but a 121 checkout put him 4-1 up.

Taylor stayed in the contest with a pressure 72 finish, as Wade waited on 20, but an uncharacteristic three missed darts at double 18 allowed Wade in to seal victory on double top.

SEMI-FINALS
TERRY JENKINS 2-0 STEVE HINE (3-1, 3-0)

TERRY JENKINS powered in the final of the North-West Regional Final with a straight sets win over Steve Hine.

Jenkins dropped just one leg in a fine display, winning the opening set 3-1.

He took a quick 2-0 lead with double ten and a two-dart 96 finish, before Hine replied on double top.

But a stunning 164 finish gave Jenkins the first set, and two double top finishes put him 2-0 up in the second.

Hine replied to Jenkins' first maximum of the match with a second 180 of his own in leg three, but the Hereford thrower took out 81 for victory.

JAMES WADE 2-1 COLIN OSBORNE (3-2, 2-3, 3-0)

JAMES WADE reached his second final in a month with a 2-1 win over Colin Osborne.

The World Matchplay finalist was runner-up in the South-West Regional Final in Bristol in February, and put himself into another decider in a high-quality semi-final.

He came from 2-0 down to win the first set 3-2 with legs of 13, 15 and 11 darts.

Osborne won set two in a decider, with all five legs going with the throw - with Wade taking out 148 in leg four and the Derby man responding with an 11-darter to square the game.

Wade took out double top for the opening leg of the final set, and then broke Osborne's throw with double four and took victory with the bullseye.
