Lewis Gets Final Premier League Place

ADRIAN LEWIS has been confirmed as the eighth and final player for the 2007 Holsten Premier League.

Lewis, who turns 22 on Sunday, was selected by host broadcasters Sky Sports as the second wildcard for the event, which begins on February 1 at the Plymouth Pavilions.

The Stoke-on-Trent based star has rocketed up the PDC ranking system and is currently placed eighth on the Order of Merit - making him the highest placed player not already qualified for the League.

Lewis has learned his trade by practising with Phil Taylor, the winner of the League in both years it has been held and the sport's most successful ever player.

And now he will have his chance to pit his wits against not only Taylor, but Raymond van Barneveld, Colin Lloyd, Peter Manley, Roland Scholten and Premier League debutants Terry Jenkins and Dennis Priestley.

"I'm over the moon to be given this place, Lewis said. "I'm so excited about playing in the Premier League in front of such massive crowds around the country every week.

"It's a brilliant tournament and I'm sure I'll love playing in it as much as I've loved watching it over the last couple of years."

Sid Waddell, Sky Sports commentator and the 'voice of darts', believes Lewis will be a great addition to the tournament.

"Adrian has shown over the last 18 months what a great prospect he is, and he was a logical choice for the final wild card spot as he was the highest ranked player not in by rights.

"He will give Phil, Barney and the others some great games and the fans will love him up and down the country."
