Premier League Darts To Continue To 2010

THE Professional Darts Corporation are delighted to announce that Sky Sports have extended their contract to cover Premier League Darts until the end of 2010.

Premier League Darts has been a huge success since first being held in 2005, with the seven-man tournament being expanded to eight top players this year and a £265,000 prize fund.

The size of venues around the UK has also been increased to reflect the demand for tickets to see the world's best in action.

Sky Sports, who screen live coverage of all major PDC tournaments, have signed a three-year extension to their contract for Premier League Darts.

This will see the tournament continue from 2008-2010 live on Sky Sports.

"This is tremendous news and reflects the popularity of the Premier League Darts as well as the high standard of Sky Sports' coverage," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"This backing ensures that the best players in the world will continue to compete in one of the most exciting tournaments live across the Sky Sports network.

"We are also looking to take Premier League Darts to Holland in 2008 as the event continues to grow in size.

"We have been delighted with the response UK supporters have given and this would be a chance for Dutch fans to see Raymond van Barneveld and Roland Scholten in their home country - should they qualify - as well as current champion Phil Taylor."

The 2007 Holsten Premier League Darts begins on Thursday 1 February, with 14 league nights to be held on consecutive weeks before the top four players qualify for the play-offs.

Ladbrokes.com World Darts Champion Raymond van Barneveld and defending Holsten Premier League Darts champion Phil Taylor - who is unbeaten in two years of the tournament - head the eight-man field.

Colin Lloyd, Roland Scholten, Peter Manley and newcomers Dennis Priestley and Terry Jenkins will also compete, with the final place to be announced next week.

Over 30,000 tickets have already been sold but some venues still have remaining tickets on sale.

Taylor and Barneveld are due to meet at the Sheffield Arena on 1 March and Birmingham NIA on 3 May.
