RAYMOND van Barneveld claimed his second title in a week as he won the PDPA Players' Championship at Hayling Island on Sunday, following on from his Budweiser UK Open success seven days ago.
The Dutchman shrugged off the disappointment of failing to qualify for July's Stan James World Matchplay as he defeated top level opponents Peter Manley, Kevin Painter and John Part as well as Welshman Barrie Bates (in their third meeting in seven days!) on his way to the final.
He then defeated Adrian Lewis 2-0, 2-0, 1-2 and 2-0 in four sets in the final to claim the £5,000 first prize money and 20 ranking points.
Little known Stuart Dutton made his way to the semis, where he was defeated by van Barneveld, after having beaten Chris Mason and John MAGowan in the latter stages.
The weekend's second perfect nine-dart finish was made by James Wade in his last 32 defeat to Alan Warriner-Little, but luck wasn't on Wade's side as it proved to be the only leg he took in the match.
Colin Lloyd's successful weekend continued as he followed up Saturday's win with a run to the semi finals, but despite having darts to knock Lewis out, it was the Stoke-thrower who came from behind to secure a final berth against van Barneveld.
