ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE 4-0 GERRY CONVERY
(3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-2)
ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE produced his best display for 12 months to cruise past Gerry Convery and move into round three of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.
The Cumbrian has enjoyed a miserable time since crashing out at the first hurdle to Paul Williams a year ago.
However, he regained some confidence with a first round win over Andree Welge, and hit top form once again to blow away the Canadian qualifier.
He won the opening nine legs without reply to open up a 3-0 lead in sets and put himself within sight of the winning line.
Convery finally got off the mark at the start of the fourth set by landing double eight, but two more legs for Warriner put himself 2-1 up.
The Canadian won the fourth leg, but that merely delayed the inevitable as Warriner-Little hit double six to seal the win.
"I never thought I was going to lose it but had to keep my composure," said Warriner. "You never know if and when your opponent is going to come back but I came good today.
"Andy's a lovely player and a fantastic player on the floor, but he's had a few games on TV now and that's good for him.
"I'll have to play better, but I'm just glad to get through to the next round.
"I've had so many problems, both personal and playing, in the past 12 months, but it's a different me now. I've got a new wife and life's fantastic.
"I'm putting in the hard work and I know I can beat anyone on my day. I'm so pleased to get my game back and I'll be back in the top eight next year."
