MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has set his sights on continuing his unbeaten September at the Unibet Champions League of Darts in Cardiff this weekend.
Van Gerwen has returned from a month's break during August, when he became a father for the first time, by winning back-to-back European Tour titles in Maastricht and Mannheim.
The World Champion is now focusing on competing on September 16-17 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff in the eight-player, BBC-televised Champions League of Darts.
Van Gerwen lost to Phil Taylor in the final of last year's inaugural event, but is the odds-on favourite with sponsors Unibet to take home the title on Sunday night.
"It would be a nice one to tick off the list," said Van Gerwen. "It's a new tournament and Phil won it last year, but I hope they are ready for me this year!
"Everything I want to compete in I want to win but it doesn't always work that way. It's going quite well at the moment."
Van Gerwen dropped just six legs in Mannheim during his five wins over the weekend, and averaged 111 against both Richard North and Rob Cross, who led 3-2 in the final before a four-leg burst gave the Dutchman glory.
"People like Rob are trying 200 percent and always push me to the end, but that makes me practice more, focus more and try my hardest," said Van Gerwen.
"People always think it's easy and that I'm like a robot. I'm not a robot, I have to work really hard.
"I think it wasn't as dominant as last week. I lost less legs so it looks easier - but it wasn't.
"I was struggling a little bit, not feeling like myself and you always want to have a little bit more, and I produced that in the final. It was a fantastic moment because Rob Cross was playing really well.
"I was putting the pressure on him constantly and in the end I think the pressure was a bit too much for him and I took advantage with a couple of great legs."
