JAMES BAILEY has secured a William Hill World Darts Championship debut after winning the 2018 DPA Oceanic Masters.
The 49-year-old from Brisbane has enjoyed a memorable 2018 which will culminate in his appearance in the sport's biggest tournament at Alexandra Palace in December.
Bailey began the year by competing at the PDC Qualifying School and he also played in the opening PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour weekend before returning Down Under.
He has also won two DPA Harrows Pro Tour events during 2018 and reached two other finals before making his World Series of Darts debut in the Melbourne Darts Masters, where he took on Gary Anderson.
Bailey won through the 32-player field to claim the top domestic title at Tuesday's Oceanic Masters to conclude the season-ending week of DPA tournaments at the Warilla Bowls Club.
Bailey defeated Dave Marland and Mark Cleaver without dropping a set before then seeing off Damon Heta 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
He repeated that scoreline in the semi-finals against John Bunyard, before enjoying a 3-2 win over Tim Pusey in the final.
Pusey, who competed in the World Series events in Auckland, Melbourne and Brisbane earlier this year, saw off Chris Vasey, Brad Thorp, Mick Lacey and Steve Fitzpatrick to reach the final.
2016 champion David Platt lost out in the second round to Mick Lacey, while New Zealanders Cody Harris, Rob Szabo, Warren French and Koha Kokiri all lost out in round one.
Heta, who will compete in the bwin World Series of Darts Finals this weekend in Vienna, overcame Gordon Mathers and Michael Cassar before losing to Bailey.
