ROB CROSS is the new 4/1 favourite with Betfred to win the Betfred World Matchplay on Sunday, following the exit of Michael van Gerwen.
World Champion Van Gerwen was the pre-tournament favourite as he targeted a third World Matchplay triumph this week.
However, the Dutchman's narrow 13-11 defeat to Glen Durrant in a thriller on Tuesday night has left the field wide open in the chase to claim the Phil Taylor Trophy.
World number two Cross is now 4/1 to take the title with sponsors Betfred, who make Durrant and 2017 finalist Peter Wright both 9/2 for glory.
Michael Smith is a 5/1 chance, with 2007 champion James Wade - the only former champion remaining in the field - now 7/1 as he bids to win a second Blackpool title.
The tournament's second round concludes on Wednesday night with the remaining four matches, with Cross, Wright and Daryl Gurney headlining the eight stars in action at the Winter Gardens.
