Grand Slam Spots For Whitlock & Gurney

Simon Whitlock - Unibet World Grand Prix (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

SIMON WHITLOCK and Daryl Gurney have won spots in November's bwin Grand Slam of Darts following their success at the Unibet World Grand Prix.

The pair's run to the final of the double-start Dublin tournament has seen them qualify for next month's 32-player Grand Slam, which will be held at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall from November 11-19.

Whitlock is a two-time Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist, having reached the last eight in 2008 and 2009, and the Australian is delighted to have finally secured his place back at the Wolves Civic.

"It's great for me," said Whitlock. "I've been in and out of the potential qualifying places for the  Grand Slam for the last couple of months and I knew if I could get to the final here I'd qualify.

"It means a lot to me and it's not just being in the Grand Slam because I also want to get back in the Premier League, where I think I belong.

"I've got a lot more to offer now, I'm a different player and I want to be back playing my best."

Gurney, meanwhile, will make his Grand Slam of Darts debut next month after continuing his impressive year by reaching his first televised ranking final.

The Northern Irish ace has claimed his maiden ranking title at a Players Championship and also competed on the World Series of Darts circuit, and been a semi-finalist in the UK Open and World Matchplay before reaching the Dublin decider.

The 32-player bwin Grand Slam of Darts also features eight BDO representatives competing alongside the 24 PDC players across nine days, with a group stage followed by the knockout phase, live on Sky Sports.

Tickets for the bwin Grand Slam of Darts are available now through www.wolvescivic.co.uk or by calling 0870 320 7000.
