David Pallett clinched his first PDC ranking title in Hildesheim on Sunday afternoon, battling past Dutchman Dennie Olde Kalter to win Event 15 on the Winmau Challenge Tour.
Former UK Open semi-finalist Pallett was denied by Dutch youngster Gian van Veen in the Event 12 final on Friday, but he made amends to scoop the £2,000 top prize to conclude this weekend's Challenge Tour action.
After easing past Philip Van Gasse in his opener, Pallett posted a stunning 107.36 average to complete a whitewash win over Stefan Bellmont, registering winning legs of 14, 14, 13, 14 and 15 darts.
Pallett then survived a match dart to edge out Scott Marsh in a last-leg decider, and after battling past Dan Read, the Shropshire star averaged 104.68 to dispatch Frenchman Jacques Labre and seal his spot in the semi-finals.
The 32-year-old was then forced to produce a spirited fightback to edge out Germany's Lukas Wenig in a dramatic last four tussle, rallying from 4-2 down to prevail, having survived two match darts in the penultimate leg.
This set up a showdown against Dutch ace Olde Kalter, who recorded four whitewash wins en route to Sunday's showpiece, including 5-0 victories over Francois Schweyen and Jan Hlavácek in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
The opening two legs of Sunday's final were shared, before Pallett reeled off three consecutive legs to move to the cusp of victory, including back-to-back legs of 13 and 15 darts.
The Dutchman threatened an unlikely comeback by reducing the arrears to 4-3, only for Pallett to complete the job with an impressive 95.38 average.
Dutch duo Danny van Trijp and Van Veen shared the spoils on Friday, and after Jurjen van der Velde clinched the Event 13 title on Saturday, Kenny Neyens ended the Dutch monopoly by landing his second Challenge Tour crown.
Pallett's success moves him up to fourth on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, but Scott Williams still boasts a £1,500 lead over Van Trijp, with Stephen Burton a further £350 adrift in third spot.
The top two players from the final 2022 Challenge Tour Order of Merit will secure a PDC Tour Card for 2023/24 and a place in the 2022/23 Cazoo World Darts Championship.
