Brody Klinge secures DPA ProTour double in Albury

Brody Klinge claimed a brace of titles last weekend, as the year's first Dartplayers Australia events took place in New South Wales.

The Commercial Club in Albury played host to Events 4-6 on February 22-23, after Events 1-3 were held in Wollongong last September.

James Bailey was crowned the Event One winner last year, before Joe Comito clinched back-to-back titles in Events Two and Three respectively.

However, Klinge took centre stage in the first treble-header of 2025, landing a brace of ton-plus averages on his way to Event Four success on Saturday, which he sealed with a 6-3 success against Koha Kokiri.

Following his opening round whitewash of Glen Hinds, Klinge overturned a 4-1 deficit to defeat Sam Ballinger, before averaging almost 104 to complete a 6-1 thumping of Jordan Mathers.

Klinge continued his charge with 6-3 wins over Bill Aitken and Brandon Weening, and he capped off a superb campaign by converting 106 and 130 checkouts to topple Kokiri by the same scoreline.

Former Tour Card Holder Darren Penhall marked his return to competitive action with Event Five victory, having initially retired from the sport following the 2023/24 World Darts Championship.

The 52-year-old conceded just seven legs in securing the title, with a 6-2 demolition of Jeremy Fagg bookended by early whitewash wins against Mal Cuming and Greg Lestrange.

Penhall then eased past Karl Schaefer and Klinge to set up a showdown against Bailey for the Event Five crown, where he sealed the deal with another whitewash victory.

However, Klinge returned to winning ways in Sunday’s Event Six, defeating Danny Porter in three straight sets to become the latest winner of The Simon Whitlock Trophy.

Having kicked off proceedings with a 2-0 win over former World Series qualifier Brenton Lloyd, Klinge turned on the style in the latter stages of his deciding-set clash against Ray Kingston.

The 32-year-old then swept aside Peter Willmott and recovered from a set down to deny Harley Kemp, before he produced a brace of ton-plus checkouts to dispatch Gordon Mathers in the last four.

The 2025 DPA season continues in April, as Events 7-9 take place in Bunbury on April 5-6, before Events 10-12 are held in Albury on June 14-15.
